  • We were ordering a take away and called them in advance to see if they would do a vegetarian red and green curry. We have done this with them before and received a very good curry. The instructions were to write it in the requests box when ordering online. This time we received two chicken curries and called them back to explain their mistake so they could send us two more. They said they could not do the vegetarian option (why send the chicken ones then and how did they manage it last time?) and would refund the two curries but not the price of the rice. I questioned this logic as we still did not have our dinner, just a bowl of rice. Surely the refund must be in full?! Also they would only refund us with a voucher but they don't do a vegetarian option! Brilliant customer care (sarcastic applause). They also said they needed to speak to 'higher management' before they called back to resolve the issue...we are still waiting.

  • I visited their outlet at Queensbay mall (renovated food court). Absolutely love the beef noodle. Quite a big serving too. Two thumbs up!!

  • When I wanted to mix my thin noodle which my friend & I ordered, each of us with a bowl, we noticed that the thin noodle was in a form of a chunk, as if it was freshly taken out from a refrigerator. This really needed very hot broth to dissolve the noodle properly. The broth was not super hot though, just an average hot broth. Other than that, The beef pho noodle was really delicious. The broth and the beef components tasted really nice and tender too! The one I had was at Gurney Paragon, newly opened restaurant. It's either the Burma Rd restaurant has already been closed down or the one at the mall is an additional outlet from the main restaurant. But then, I noticed the price has increased. It's now at RM15.90.

  • The parking is limited, the traffic infront of this restaurant is intense, but the food is exquisite! Sukhothai is known among locals for its Thai Beef Noodle Soup RM14.90 that features succulent chunks of stewed brisket, fatty and lean thin sliced beef, gelatinous tendon and tripe. The beef balls are crunchy, the broth is translucent with that velvety mouth feel that leaves your mouth sticky with collagen. The bowl is accompanied with plump bean sprouts, a juicy lime wedge and perky basil. The Vietnamese Pork Noodle for RM14.90 is the closest I have tasted to authentic Pho in Penang. The Mango sticky rice features lightly salted unadulterated coconut cream and purple sticky rice. The durian sticky rice is served in a goblet, and seems like a small portion for RM8.90 but is decadent. The only dish we tasted that was sub-par was the Laab. It was uncharacteristically bland after savoring the other well crafted dishes. Sukhothai has set meals that combine a punchy salad, drink of choice, dessert of the day, with a popular entree for just ringgit more. For example, the Vietnamese Pork Noodle Soup was just RM19.90 for the set instead of RM14.90 a la carte--saving you at least RM10. The decor is calming and sharp. The staff are attentive and very friendly and helpful. Try to come before the lunch rush which arrives shortly after 12 noon or you will find yourself parking creatively and walking at least a block to the restaurant.
