TCK 6685 is a unique dining experience situated within the Heritance Tea Factory hotel (see separate review). Now we had recently experienced an epic train journey of our own from Bagan to Mandalay in Myanmar - so the 'thrill' of that journey was still with us as we booked our tickets with the Station Master for the TCK 6685 from Hethersett to Goatfell. We arrived at the station for 7:30pm and climbed aboard the train to the whistle of the Station Master. We were warmly greeted in the carriage and directed to our seats towards the rear of the carriage. A few minutes later the train pulled out to the sound of shunting trains, the shrill whistle of an old train engine and the sway of the track. The staff were bouncing about trying to keep themselves and the dishes upright as we headed out into the countryside through six different stations. Now obviously we were here for dinner, but dinner is just part of this whole experience. It was the whole drama, stage setting, lighting, background sounds, uniforms, physical motion and the active participation of the guests which made this a unique and wonderful experience, which you are unlikely to have again. The 'tickets' are not inexpensive but for what you get we felt it was great value. There is an excellent food choice and wine list, butler class service, great tasting food and all consumed in the splendid surroundings of TCK 6685. The attention to detail was 1st Class and each course represented a different station along the journey. If you are not willing to take part in the drama of the journey then perhaps TCK 6685 is not for you, but if you love a bit of fun, drama, good food and wine then get on board and book your tickets! If you are in the environs of Nuwara Eliya, get yourself to the Heritance Tea Factory hotel and take the journey - super food & great fun.

this is another tea factory . it is very educational and informatic. but it ok if you see one tea factory .

If you are staying at the Heritance Tea Factory and you want to try a different dining experience then you need to book at TCK 6685. It is a mini restaurant located in a former railway carriage sitting on a narrow gauge railway next to the main dining area at the hotel. They provide a six course menu for $75 US per person, excluding drinks. There are only four tables which are seating for couples only. It is a bit pricey compared to the full buffet provided by the hotel but you are paying for the unique experience . The white gloved maitre'd (railway guard) is very attentive and provides character as the carriage rocks and whistles like it's actually moving. The executive chef will also come & explain each of his dishes for your selection. The food was very nice however there were a couple of dishes where some of the local ingredients could have been more pronounced but their flavours had been subdued. The fish wasn't as fresh as it could have been, a little dry for my liking but maybe I'm just being picky. The local cheeses were all very similar but again a little dry the dish needed variety. The complimentary port wine was a nice touch.
