  • This restaurant will soon be a reservations required place. We had the beef and the catch of the day, fabulous. Charming atmosphere, lovey staff, delicious meal and wine made our evening in Siena so enjoyable. On top of it all, it was a great value, the best of Tuscany.

  • You get a warm reception from the hostess to start with and she'll explain everything you want to know about the food, which is quite exceptional. I'm not a regular normal visitor to nouveau cuisine but I would say this is near to if not at it. The presentation is fantastic. Even if you have just a pasta dish it comes looking fantastic. All the dishes looked amazing to us and we do know a bit about food ourselves as we cook all our meals from scratch every evening using fresh ingredients. She starts you off with a little aperitif, which doesn't go on the bill. Unbelievably the house wine is only 10 euro's a bottle and is great. We had a lot of fish in our two courses, which we eat half of each. We ordered red house wine with it which probably most people would opt for white. Having sniffed the cork to check the wine was Ok, the hostess, ( I wish we took her name) proceeded to tell us that the wine was from the sangiovese grape which is quite light and OK with fish. Well we were't expecting a wine expert as well as a food expert. Needless to say she is charming as well. They make their own bread, which on this occasion was one with walnut and another with carraway seed, presented in a little cloth basket. It probably goes without saying that we went back a few days later having booked and the food was just as good as was the hostess. They really care about their food here and at these prices it is really a fantastic find.

  • A hidden gem! Il Campaccio is easily overlooked, but what a night we had. Beautiful dishes accompanied by great wine for very reasonable prices. I think Il Campaccio offers so much more quality than 99% of the restaurants in Siena. We'll be coming back!

  • Very intimate, non-tourist restaurant. My wife and I were in Siena for two nights from December 31st to January 2nd for our honeymoon. While walking back to our hotel, Albergo Bernini, we decided to walk down this tiny alley right under the hotel. To our surprise there was a small and busy restaurant tucked under the building. We asked our hotel about it and one of the owners of the hotel said it was owned by one of her sisters and her sisters husband. We quickly booked reservations for the next day as there were only seven tables in the restaurant. This is not a hotel restaurant, its a side venture by one of the owners so don't ignore this place thinking you will get hotel quality food. The food was all local or Italian products. No tourist Italian food, menus the size of novels, or pictures of food on the menu. Just quality Italian food and wine in a great atmosphere. Since it is small, the food is prepared properly just for you with no rush to get it to the table to get you in an out as fast as possible. This restaurant can't be missed, but do make reservations.
