A visit to Mt Annan Botanical Gardens mid week is highly recommended - gardens close to the restaurant, around the lakes, and along the circuit road (Big Ideas, Wattle and Banskia gardens) are a real treat, topped off by both an enjoyable morning tea and lunch in the Melaleuca cafe. The food was of excellent quality and the service particularly friendly and engaging. Definitely scheduled for a return visit!

Nice cafe for morning tea. The scones and cakes are yummy. We have had the bacon and egg on a damper roll which was quite tasty. The coffee is very weak all times we have been here, not good at all. Lovely to sit outside. Prices for mains are quite expensive. The gardens are worth visiting, and the cafe is a great spot to stop and have a morning for afternoon tea but not coffee!

The space is clean and neat, the wait not too long (even on a public holiday) but for the love for all that is fair and reasonable in the world - $20 for a few bits of pumpkin, goats cheese and salad leaves in a standard takeaway container, and $8.80 for a cream-filled piece of cake is just plain mean. There are no other food options at Mount Annan, so it looks like the Melaleuca Cafe has attempted a Janome-esque stitch-up of anyone unorganised to bring their own stuff. It's a shame, the rest of the place has a real community vibe I hope the Royal Botanic Garden people re-award the contract to a caterer that has a more fairly priced menu. The guy serving the food apologised (but didn't offer to do anything about it) and when the lady in front of my guffawed over the price of the Italian-cake-cream-pastry- thing (cannelini maybe?) her reply 'it's $8.80 if you don't want it - you don't want it', translation: Yep, I know its expensive, I deal with this crap all day, and frankly don't give a FF because you have no other option.

We were hungry and were looking for food - this is the only café/restaurant in the Australian Botanical Gardens so we landed there. Café style food for restaurant price - that is the best description. But the food was great, waiter confirmed the order and brought exactly what we asked even with some amendments, waiting for food was short and kids playground is just near - what else do you need during your weekend family lunch? We were happy.
