Schall und Rauch used to be one of the cult bars for the Prenzlauer Berg’s scene. After recent renovation it has lost its ‘historical’ design, and many of the frequent customers. Bur the place is still a good place for lunch, brunch or a beer with friends.

I kept coming here for morning coffee and finding the coffee area deserted and leaving after I realised I would not be able actually to have a coffee, despite the elaborate signs. One day I spotted someone who looked like a waitress so sat down . It took five to ten minutes to get the attention of the waitress then another five minutes to get the coffee then maybe another five to get a croissant . There was a Gray deal of walking around. A chef like person coming in and out of the kitchen with oranges , the waitress walking with a determined look into the kitchen then back out. There were exactly three of us in the place . The others, two women who seemed to be guests at the hotel must have waited 30 minutes for their breakfast plate to arrive. I heard one of them remarking under her breath that it had taken a long time. No kidding! This place has a serious service problem. Whoever owns it needs to get the act together. It is beyond me how places that are so disorganised stay in business .
