  • I'm not really a ramen fan - can't get used to paying $xx for noodles, soup and one thin slice of roast pork. But my companions had not had authentic Japanese ramen so came to the original Tenkaippin where apparently it all started. The house special had a superb thick soup - almost like a chowder. Would give it 5 stars except like I said I am not partial to ramen. Total bill for 3 was ¥2,600 which is decent in Gion.

  • This was my first hot pot experience and I didn't enjoy eating boiled meat and vegetables. The pot was filled with plain water vs. a broth and while there was a sauce it was a little too rich. I also didn't care much for people putting their chopsticks in the pot and in their mouth. I went on a company function so the social aspect was certainly nice and the atmosphere was very authentic, but would try somewhere new next time.
