Located at the Kyoto Porta (JR Kyoto Station) Delicious pastas! After wandering around the Porta Dining area, we decided to try Yomenya Geomon because we thought our daughters would want a change from eating udon, sushi and/or french fries (their primary sustenance on this trip to Japan). I can't complain too much - they're eating right? My wife and I opted for the half and half specials (¥1420) as it would allow us to try a variety of different pastas. I had the carbonara with camembert cheese and crispy bacon, and the shrimp, avocado and fresh herb with genovese sauce. My wife had the spaghetti margherita, and the peperoncino with karasumi dried mullet roe, zuwai crab and shrimp. Both sets came with a small bowl of miso soup and a drink (we chose ice coffee). Everything was delicious! The serving sizes were large enough for the four of us to share and with everyone getting their fill. We also got a tiramisu/chocolate ice cream-type dessert (¥450) Great choice!

Popularly called just Goemon, this branch is located at the north end of Kyoto's Kawaramachi shopping area in an underground shopping center called Zest. Zest is connected to the City Hall subway station.This location is small and often so crowded that customers wait outside on stools. Other than watching the chefs in the kitchen area behind the counter, there isn't any particular atmosphere. It is not a place to linger, but a place to eat and go. However, it is well worth coming here to try one of the many Japanese-style pastas. Seafood pastas dominate with garlic and olive oil sauces, tomato sauces, and soy butter sauces. Meat and seafood combinations may be garnished with Japanese herbs or greens. My personal favorites here are Tarako (cod roe) and Mentaiko (spicy cod roe) pastas. Orders are served in beautiful bowls with chopsticks. We like the blue bowls so much we wish we could bring some home.
