It has been sometime since I last visited this place and was pleasantly surprised with their refurbished restaurant. It's better than the previous. Food is good here and price wise it's very reasonable. The steak was tasty and the portion big. Nachos was very good Overall a positive and pleasant experience.

I went there few months ago on 2 occasions, for a friend's birthday and a business dinner. I don't have much to compliment during my business dinner. We have asked for medium steak. I find it a bit chewy and my colleague's steak was almost rare. The wine was alright although we have tasted something better elsewhere with the same price. During the birthday dinner, we had it in one of their rooms. Probably, there were many more people and us being in the room, the service was slightly better than my earlier encounter. I have no issue with foreign waiters or waitresses but if some could not comprehend simple question on explaining what is on the menu, then the management should buck up on the training. Ambience - good. Food - the portions of the Appetisers are small. Tasty though especially the Seared Scallops and the Mango Shrimp Cocktails. The Smoked Salmon salad is also good, we ordered it twice during the birthday dinner. Drinks - on both occasions, we decided to adjourned elsewhere.

We went to Monte's at BSC on Sunday and we liked it very much. PROS: 1) The restaurant is very well designed. 3 private rooms for group functions, window side seats for couples and the rest for large families. Nice ambience. 2) Food portion was quite big for such reasonable prices. Steaks only go up to MYR 70++ and that's probably the most expensive item on the menu. Good value. 3) Everything was well prepared. I ordered the Chicken Maryland while le bf had the Honey Chicken. Both came with sides of fries and salad. My dish had a giant banana fritter, one large chicken sausage, corn fritter, fries and a crispy battered chicken chop. That's a huge portion for around MYR 28. As for the Honey Chicken, you get a whole spring chicken with sides of fries and salad for MYR 35. Cheaper than Nando's. 4) It's everything you expect from a casual western restaurant. Simple comfort food, friendly environment and happy staff and guests. CONS: 1) The foreign waiter did not know what sour cream was so he just said OK and walked away, never to return. Had to ask another staff for it after 20 mins. I would think if you are a waiter and you did not understand what I wanted, you could at least ask another colleague instead of ignoring me. 2) We went at 6.40pm, it was quite early and there were not much guests yet, therefore service was fast and more attentive. However, I dare not bank on the peak hours as I believe the staff are not organized enough to handle the large crowds. Probably end up like Chilies where your requests will be ignored and you can forget about drink refills. Conclusion: For nice food and a friendly environment , do go for Monte's. This restaurant has been around for ages and it's heartening to see that their standards have not drop and prices remain wallet friendly. Just arrive earlier than standard dinner hours unless you enjoy loud babies and kids running around.
