  • This is probably a review with a huge amount of advice, starting with the best part of the trip which was eating at Cocoro with our two young teen boys. We had seen Cocoro advertised in a local Niseko tourist guide and figured that as we were heading to Kutchen to go to the supermarket (best way to buy food if you a staying in Niseko for more than a few days) that we'd stop in on the way and have dinner. We caught the Kutchen Night Go bus (which starts at 5:40pm - costs 100 yen) from the Hirafu Intersection into Kutchen in a raging blizzard and asked the bus driver to let us off at the Plat Information Centre from which it was a short walk back across the road to Cocoro (did I mention the blizzard?!). Inside was toastie warm and tiny with seating for perhaps 12 so I'd suggest booking unless you are there early. The owner was an older Japanese gentleman with almost perfect English and he suggested we have the okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) which you cook at your table. If this is new to you, the staff will happily show you how to cook the pancake which was delicious! The menu has a huge selection of pancake options which are all cooked the same way but with different ingredients. We tried the shrimp one which was mouthwatering good - so good that since being home, we have these on a regular basis for dinner now! After dinner we jumped on the next Night Go bus heading towards the train station where the supermarket is. Word of advice - Like so much of the Niseko area, this supermarket only takes cash.... After loading up with groceries, with full bellies we waited for the Night Go bus back to Hirafu (last bus around midnight). Out of all of the restaurants we ate at in Hirafu, Cocoro rated right up there. It is authentic, tasty and felt truly 'local'. It was also one of the cheapest meals we had. Definitely a favourite for us.
