  • "Salah El Deen" is my favorite place in what I would definitely refer to as my favorite city in Egypt. Tranquil, relaxing and an incomparable location where you just have to stretch your arms a bit to feel the warmly flowing waters of the mighty river Nile. Nothing can match that, not even by a long shot. They simply offer everything: Food (not gourmet cuisine but clearly above average), drinks (soft, beer and wine) and the traditional water pipe (Shisha), which comes as an original or in various flavors. Never have been a real fan of this particular kind of smoking, but here I do. The mood is what makes the difference. Also, tea with or without mint, Turkish coffee and an array of soft drinks and juices are available in abundance. They are really trying very hard to meet everybody's desires. Most importantly; even if we were to put the Nile aside, "Salah El Deen" still would be a gem when it comes to its location. You practically have the entire downtown Aswan right at your fingertips with the train station and the old market being just a 10 - 15 minutes drive away. Personally, I am usually staying at the "Pyramisa Isis Corniche" within walking distance, but no matter where your accommodation is, you can still reach the place easily by cab within minutes. They have a beautiful wooden terrace floating over the Nile, making you feel the gentle movements of its tides as if they are rocking you into sleep. The only clear downside is the service. While the staff is friendly and helpful by nature, they are also unprofessional and not trained at all. Catching the attention of a waiter might take ages, ordering the check and getting your change could be a very painstaking process as well. Still, is it worth it? It sure is. I mean; you can't really be seeking perfectionism in each and every regard. Just be reasonable and try to consider that minuses are a necessity to appreciate the pluses.
