Came here recently for a birthday party with a large group. We ordered a lot of food to pass around and some large plates too. All the food was well prepared, specializing in local farm to table cooking, lots of meaty parts, lots of vegetable choices. We also ordered some of the specialty drinks. The service all night, despite our rowdy group, was excellent, and servers were busy all over this tidy restaurant serving happy patrons. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, some to excess! The food reactions were mixed, as you could imagine with a large group experimenting with new dishes. We tried: the liver devilled eggs, the asparagus in hollandaise, the fried maine clam bellies with frites, the house salad, the fried pork skin fritters, the roasted beets...the gnudi, the steamed clams and mussells, the lamb tortelini, etc. I liked everything, some things a little more, some a little less. The bread brought to the table was excellent, along with seasoned dipping oil and a butter spread. The birthday cake, baked in-house along with everything else, was sublime. I would go again. They have a beautiful outdoor space too, if it ever gets warm enough.

My daughter took me here, as it is her favorite. The restaurant follows a farm to table theme. The food is fresh, well prepared and comes in small plates. As a vegetarian, it is difficult to find a place that does vegetables well. The food here is well seasoned and tasty with a decent desert menu. There is outdoor seating too. I loved it here and see why it is a local favorite.

I asked for City of Buffalo restaurant recommendations on one of my charcuterie groups, and The Black Sheep came well recommended. Sadly we were not able to get a table at a good time, but we happily sat at the bar. We ordered the Pork Devilled Egg, full charcuterie platter, and a burger special with frites. The egg was great, as was the board. Way too much food, but if we were only there once we needed the full experience. A friend had the chicken, which was perfectly cooked and wonderfully presented and spiced. My burger was very, very good, though the sauce was a little too rich for my liking. The frites were the best I have ever has. Period. If you're searching for the perfect french-fry, I don't think you could get much better. Honestly, one of the best meals I've ever had, and we will be back when next in Buffalo.

This is a very well reviewed restaurant in an improving neighborhood within the City. Locally sourced ingredients and an adventurous menu, First of all, the space is "cool". Not real large, but the seating is spaced so you don't feel crowded. We had a reservation and were promptly seated We went for Brunch on a Sunday. Most things on the Menu were a bit out of the ordinary. None of the standard omlettes, or bacon and eggs. Drinks ordered other than beers were a pickle bloody mary (too salty and pickely), and a mimosa which was pronounced tasty. We ordered a pastry basket for the table (Game of Scones) which was excellent, particularly the house-made cinnamon raisin bread. As for the main dishes: One ordered Corned Beef Hash. It was reportedly flavorful, but was 90% cubed up potatoes with minimal corned beef. Three ordered Egg Fideos (described as like a pasta based Paella with eggs), All were a bit disappointed in this dish - the flavors and textures just didn't work for any of us. The only win at the table was the sausage gravy with Biscuits which we all had a bite of. A couple of the other dishes we saw coming out looked good, eggs over fried Polenta). The bill for 5 including several drinks ended up around $145 before tax and tip Great service, plenty of staff, but in my opinion, the breakfast menu needs some work - a little too off the wall for our taste.
