One of the best spring offerings they had was the strawberry dim sum lunch. All you can eat dim sum and a strawberry dessert buffet.

Seriously now. There are three restaurants on the second floor of the Tokyo Hilton Shinjuku and each one is fabulous. We tried the Chinese restaurant the last and it might be the best. We had the five course duck lunch and it was just superb. Started with Beijing Duck which was the best version we have had in many many years. Next an understated but tasty and perfectly cooked dish of green vegetables. The broth was wonderful too. Fried rice with duck and a duck soup followed. We cheated and had an extra course of dim sum just to try them and they were as good as any we ever had in Hong Kong at the Penisula Hotel in its hay day. Finally a custard for dessert. Two perfect ploys of jasmine tea accompanied the meal. Wish I had three more days to try everything on the menu including the Szechuan dishes.

Since there was a card in my room for a discounted 6-course meal, I visited the restaurant the night that I arrived in Tokyo. Dynasty is one of the suite of eateries on the second floor. It is quiet and nicely decorated; about half the tables were occupied. My meal consisted of a chicken dish, sweet and sour soup, “Peking” duck, beef and fried rice, a fried spring roll and 3 offerings od dim sum, and a tapioca dessert. The “special” price, before 8% tax (on everything including service) and 12% service was 6000 Yen, supposedly 3300 Yen less than the “normal” price. A 500 cc bottle of sparking water was 900 Yen. The food was tasty and the portions were small. Had the rice dish not been provided, I would have been hungry at the end. The brochure depicted 5 slices of Peking duck and 2 mushu wraps; in reality, one piece of duck and some veggies wrapped in a tortilla were delivered. Perhaps because of my jet lag, I felt that my service was very slow compared to the other tables around me. After 3 “courses,” I asked that they speed things up, and suddenly, the last 3 offerings came almost simultaneously. I wouldn’t order this “special” again. While it was hot and tasty, I have experienced better on numerous occasions in the Bay Area; however, for a popular hotel, the price was fair.
