  • We went to Bistecca for our anniversary with my son. The service was fine and we ordered our food. My son ordered the flat iron steak and I ordered the Arctic char and my husband ordered the lamb. 2 out of the 3 dishes were a huge mistake, My son took a bite of his steak and said it had a funny smell. I took a small bite and it had a bad stench to it. My husband smelt it and said it was bad meat. My arctic char was cooked in so much salt, that I couldn't even eat it. We called the waiter and as soon as he picked the steak, he could smell the bad meat. He apologized and asked my son what else he wanted to order. My son settled on the bison cannelloni. The manager came over and apologized and indicated that the Executive Chef was away and the chef working today had messed up. I wonder why an expensive and notable restaurant would hire "fly by nighters chefs". Bad food cleanliness and how does a chef not smell bad meat. The manager indicated that they would not charge for my son's meal but would charge me 1/2 price for my redone Arctic Char which was still very salty. We paid $73 for 1 good meal and my expectation is that they should have not charged us at all as they had tried to serve us bad meat. Very disappointed and extremely upset at how the night ended up for all of us. Would not recommend anyone going to the restaurant until they straighten out their food handling so no one gets food poisoning. We were very lucky as we realized it was bad meat. What if we hadn't? Would not want to know the consequence of eating bad meat.

  • This review has nothing to do with the great food of this establishment, but is a reflection of my thoughts of my experience one Tuesday afternoon, May 17th. I was out with a buddy, lunch earlier, and a couple of home reno supply stores. We had decided to go out for a wine, and Bistecca was the choice. Engaging some conversation, and a short while later, a lady walks in, polite and courteous some days, loud and obnoxious on others, well known to the establishment, and some of the patrons, she sits down beside me at the bar. The conversation is spotty, and there was tension in the air. In the past, there was friction between the lady beside me, and the fellow I was out with. A short while later, the fellow decides he has had enough, and asks the bartender for his tab. Well, the lady decides to heckle, asking the bartender how much the fellow was tipping, 5%, 8%, or? The bartender very politely said it was a private matter between the patron and himself. I thought that would be the end, but the patron pays up, and quite loudly, tells the lady, it was none of her f,,,ing business! Well, she leaps out of her chair, and I didnt see who threw the first punch/slap, but the fight was on!! The manager had to intervene, throwing his arms around the fellow to break the situation up. Separating the two, he bans the lady for life, and I was quite expecting the same for the gent, after all, what manager tolerates a man striking a lady in his establishment? I asked for my tab, paid, and left, went home, and then for a bicycle ride. A few days later, I was in Bistecca again, and I asked the manager, what became of the situation. He informed me, that he had apologized to the gentleman. Well, I guess, 'fair enough'? The decision was made. However, in my mind, this was acceptance/tolerance of violence towards women, whether she was loud and boisterous or not!

  • My wife and I love great service and delicious food. Our first experience at Bistecca (January 2016) was not what we expected. However the Management took it upon themselves to invite us back. It took awhile for everyone to get their schedules together, but tonight (May 14th) was the night AND IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!! It was made even more special by visits from the manager and the executive chef. The food was delicious, hot, well spaced and perfectly prepared. The wines were excellent and I am not a wine guy. The meal was spaced perfectly between appy, mains and dessert. Could not have been better. There is a set menu, but if you have dietary restrictions, or want something special they will go out of their way to make it happen. Would tell anyone who asks that this was a five diamond dining experience without the five diamond dress code. Thanks Stephan and Sonny.

  • Those who have read my previous review of this restaurant know or understand that This restaurant is one of our favourites. My wife Laura and I regularly visit here and have come to the point where we just ask Sonny Sung and his excellent staff to just "make " us something. Today both Laura and I have had a week or so of intense work load and are totally bushed. When it came time to order from Debra our server, I just said I am "brain dead"'and couldn't make a decision if my life depended on it. Debra to the rescue, we had a series of ASSAGGINI or "little bites" brought to us that almost read our minds as to what we would like. The last serving was a small "off the menu" serving of beef short rib ravioli. An amazing light meal over an extended period of time that allowed us to relax, collect our thoughts and then share them with each other. This is the kind of dining we experienced daily in Europe and have tried to find at home. A wonderful meal, attentive servers and great kitchen that gave us a well deserved evening together. When in Edmonton you must try this fine little restaurant located at 23rd Ave and 111th Street.
