We go here monthly with a take out order in between. For apps ask for Cuban tamales it comes with a dish but they will be happy to give you an order. All the other croquette apps are great, bread is from Porto's. Pollo a la Plancha and Lomo Saltido my favorites plus Lechon Frita and the maduro and beans are delicious.. French fries are killer so bring your kids Go early (7PM) for dinner as this has become more of a lunch spot. They have another in Burbank that is open later.

Just visited El Criollo in Van Nuys for lunch with a friend in order to satisfy my craving for some good Cuban food. El Criollo fit the bill....good, traditional Cubano food with a lunch menu that includes a Meat, Chicken, Pork or Fish entree with rice & black beans and sweet plantains. I tried the Chicken Asado which was very delicious. I also had Cafe con Leche, very good and the Flan. The flan was rich, thick and delicious. Prices were moderate, service was good....funky atmosphere with Cuban posters and very good Cuban music. A good spot for comfort food.

FIRST OF ALL, EL CRIOLLO CUBAN RESTAURANT IS LOCATED AT 6622 VAN NUYS BLVD. IN VAN NUYS, CA 91405 - (818) 785-8625 - IT IS NOT ON VICTORY BLVD. THEY MOVED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. We just had my son's 50th birthday party there and it was very good, as usual. We've been there several times with small and large family groups and it is very consistent. If you are looking for REAL Cuban food, give this place a try. There's lots of good stuff on the menu.
