Jumbo Huang citation resources: Today we left the Hotel Fiera and headed to the train station by talking bus, we onboard the train T1 11407 Ancona, departed at 7:35am to Rimini, We reached Rimini at 9:05am, We Left the train station and found the bus stop for San Marino, we bought two round-trip tickets at euro20(San Marino Gruppo Bonelli Bus& Benedettini), after onboard the bus, we headed for San Marino, when the bus passed through the ancient city of Rimini, we could see many old buildings. Rimini was a city of 225000 inhabitants in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy and capital city of the Province of Rimini. It is located on the Adriatic Sea, on the coast between the rivers Marecchia and Ausa. It is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe, thanks to its 15km long sandy beach, over 1000 hotels, and thousands of bars, restaurants and discos. The first bathing establishment opened in 1843.

An art city with ancient Roman and Renaissance monuments, Rimini is the hometown of the famous film director Federico Fellini as well. Founded by the Romans in 268 BC, throughout their period of rule Rimini was a key communications link between the north and south of the peninsula, and on its soil Roman emperors erected monuments like the Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge, while during the Renaissance, the city benefited from the court of the House of Malatesta, which hosted artists like Leonardo and produced works such as the Malatesta Temple. In the 19th century, Rimini was one of the most active cities in the revolutionary front, hosting many of the movements aimed at the unification of Italy. Rimini has a rich historical and artistic heritage, which includes churches and monasteries, villas and palaces, fortifications, archaeological sites, streets and squares. Rimini has monuments of all epochs, with important examples of architecture from the Roman age, such as the Arch of Augustus, the Tiberius Bridge, the Amphiteatre and the Domus del Chirurgo; from the Middle Ages, such as the Palazzo dell’Arengo, the church of Sant’Agostino and Castel Sismondo; from the Renaissance, with the Tempio Malatestiano, masterpiece of Leon Battista Alberti. After one hour we finally reached Repubblica di San Marino, also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, was an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains. Its size is just over 61 km2 and has an estimated population of about 32,000. Its capital is the City of San Marino and its largest city is Dogana. San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe. San Marino claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, as the continuation of the monastic community founded on 301, by stonecutter Marinus of Arba. Legend has it that Marinus left Rab, then the Roman colony of Arba, in 257 when the future emperor Diocletian issued a decree calling for the reconstruction of the city walls of Rimini, which had been destroyed by Liburnian pirates. The country's economy mainly relies on finance, industry, services and tourism. Despite having an extremely small economy for a nation state, it is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP (per capita), with a figure comparable to the most developed European regions. San Marino is considered to have a highly stable economy, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt and a budget surplus. It is the only country with more vehicles than people. Saint Marinus left the island of Arba in present-day Croatia with his lifelong friend Leo, and went to the city of Rimini as a stonemason. After the Diocletianic Persecution following his Christian sermons, he escaped to the nearby Monte Titano, where he built a small church and thus founded what is now the city and state of San Marino. The official date of the founding of what is now known as the Republic is 3 September 301. Its topography is dominated by the Apennine mountain range, and it has a rugged terrain. The highest point in the country, the summit of Monte Titano, is situated at 749 m. We left San Marino at 14pm, and reached Rimini around 15pm, I went around the cities for half an hour and return back to catch the train of T12068 headed for Piacenza, we departed at 15:57pm, we saw an old man took a very old canvas bag which showed the word of “World Truck Expedition”, we arrived in Bologna around 17:21pm, then we took bus25 to the street close to the hotel, we ate at the Chinese restaurant, cost us 14euro, then we bought some fruit and cosmetics, cost us another euro5.94, after that we returned back to the hotel. After taking shower, I began to research the history of the Battle of Keren, The battle was fought from 5 February to 1 April 1941 between a mixed Italian army of regular and colonial troops and the attacking British, Commonwealth, and Free French forces. The town of Keren, located in the Italian colony of Eritrea, was of strategic importance to both the Italian and the British-led forces in 1941. The road and railway routes through Keren were the key to access the city of Asmara and the Red Sea port of Massawa, both of which surrendered to Allied forces in the aftermath of the battle. Originally colonised by the Italians in 1885, Eritrea was used as a staging ground for two Italian invasions of Ethiopia or Abyssinia, Keren had no built-in fortifications or defensive structures but it is surrounded on most sides by a jumble of steep granite mountains and sharp ridges which gave the defending forces on the high ground a distinct advantage whilst providing their artillery with perfect observation of any attacking formations, even though Italian army had this advantage, it still be defeated by the British-led forces, Keren was as hard a soldiers' battle as was ever fought, it was too tough for the Italians.

Diary Notes: 20150616 We left the Hotel Fiera room in the morning, the old man in front of the counter charged me another euro6 taxi, we walked to the bus station, took bus to train station, we were aboard the train at 7:20am, the train of RV2224 headed to Venezia S.L. It stopped at Ferrara City, and reached Venezia-Mestre very soon, eventually we reached the Venezia S.L. train station, after left the station, we walked to the bus station, crossed some bridges, and found our hotel at 10:30am, the details of the hotel was: Casa Caburlotto , I booked two night and I should pay in the local currency € 100,€ 3 City tax per person per night is excluded. F.ta Rizzi - Santa Croce 316 Santa Croce 30135 Venice 39041710877, when I began to check in, I found that I made a mistake, I actually booked one single room for two night at the rate of € 100, after negotiation, we adjusted to sleep in the double room for one night with the price of € 100, it was the most expensive room we had ever slept. After put away my backpackers, I returned to the lobby to use the wifi, I accessed to the internet and booked another room, the price was only €49 per night for two persons, the hotel named Host Hotel Venice, Dorsoduro 223, originally named Hotel ALLA Salute. After I put the computer in the room, I began to walk around the city, from Stazione Ferroviaria Santa Lucia to Piazzale Rome, actually a bus station close to Giardino Papadopoli garden, through Ponte Della Costituzine, Fondamenta Ca Rizzi road, hotel of Casa Carburlotte, I walked several hours, and saw the big Island Princess cruise ship. Later I found my booked hotel, and walked to Nur S.A.S. Di Mohammed Jamal EC Dorsoduro 2973, I bought a pizza for euro2.5, the shopper was from Bengal. After I came back to hotel, I asked Iris to walk with me by another routine, we saw the stores at Canad City SGR PV Sestiere Santa Croc, we bought some food, included Tramezz cotto and Salmone, we ate the food at the outside of the store. And we kept walking until it began to rain heavily. Venice was a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline, between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork. The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon. The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century BC. The city was historically the capital of the Republic of Venice. Venice has been known as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain, and spice) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century. This made Venice a wealthy city throughout most of its history. It is also known for its several important artistic movements, especially the Renaissance period. After the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna, the Republic was annexed by the Austrian Empire, until it became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, following a referendum held as a result of the Third Italian War of Independence. Venice has played an important role in the history of symphonic and operatic music, and it is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi. From the 9th to the 12th century, Venice developed into a city state. Its strategic position at the head of the Adriatic made Venetian naval and commercial power almost invulnerable. With the elimination of pirates along the Dalmatian coast, the city became a flourishing trade center between Western Europe and the rest of the world with a naval power protecting sea routes from Islamic piracy. Venice seized a number of places on the eastern shores of the Adriatic before 1200, mostly for commercial reasons, because Muslim pirates based there were a menace to trade. So far the biggest challenge for Venice is subsidence, the gradual lowering of the surface of Venice, has led to the seasonal Acqua alta when much of the city's surface is occasionally covered at high tide. Venice is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world for its celebrated art and architecture. The city has an average of 60000 tourists a day, In 2006, it was the world's 28th most internationally visited city, with 3million international arrivals that year. It is regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities. Tourism has been a major sector of Venetian industry since the 18th century, when it was a major center for the Grand Tour, with its beautiful cityscape, uniqueness, and rich musical and artistic cultural heritage. In the 19th century, it became a fashionable centre for the rich and famous, often staying or dining at luxury establishments such as the Danieli Hotel and the Caffè Florian. It continued being a fashionable city in vogue right into the early 20th century. In the 1980s, the Carnival of Venice was revived and the city has become a major centre of international conferences and festivals, such as the prestigious Venice Biennale and the Venice Film Festival, which attract visitors from all over the world for their theatrical, cultural, cinematic, artistic, and musical productions. Today, there are numerous attractions in Venice, such as St Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Piazza San Marco. The Lido di Venezia is also a popular international luxury destination, attracting thousands of actors, critics, celebrities, and mainly people in the cinematic industry. The city also relies heavily on the cruise business. The Cruise Venice Committee has estimated that cruise ship passengers spend more than 150 million euros annually in the city, However, Venice's popularity as a major worldwide tourist destination has caused several problems, including the fact that the city can be very overcrowded at some points of the year. It is regarded by some as a tourist trap, and by others as a "living museum". Unlike most other places in Western Europe, and the world, Venice has become widely known for its element of elegant decay. The competition for foreigners to buy homes in Venice has made prices rise so high that numerous inhabitants are forced to move to more affordable areas of Veneto, the most notable being Mestre. The need to balance cruise tourism revenues with the protection of the city's fragile canals has seen the Italian Transport Ministry attempt to introduce a ban on large cruise ships visiting the city. The ban would only allow cruise ships smaller than 40000gross tons to enter Venice’s Giudecca Canal and St Mark's basin.
