  • I've been in LA for a week now and this is by far the best restaurant I've been to. The food is incredible! We had the sesame shrimp toast, the baked crayfish rolls and half a portion of ramen per person. All the dishes were so, so tasty. I would happily rush back there again tomorrow. The service was great and the restaurant is small and intimate.

  • We stopped in for a late night meal and were not disappointed. Ordered a variety of food - we shared edamame, crispy kale, sashimi, Omakase nigiri, several sushi rolls, and a small portion of spicy ramen. Thought the Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeño was excellent! Seemed like a locals place and it was quite crowded even before closing. Would definitely go here again if ever in the area.

  • We were searching the "Matcha Box" in LA, and found the restaurant right next to it. The Sashimi is wonderful, however the Ramon is so wonderful. With fix menu and homemade Tofu, we had a great time in the big city

  • We are great fans of Japanese food and have eaten at Robata Jinya 2 times previously. This time we were a party of 9 people and had reserved a table. This was inside near the sushi bar whereas previously in warmer weather we had sat outside. The pounding rock music was so loud that it was impossible to converse even with the person next to you. A request to lower the volume resulted in minimal improvement. At a second request to the manager, he said that the volume could not be reduced further, which is difficult to believe. That said, the food is still interesting and good but on the expensive side. We have eaten in many Japanese restaurants in the US and on 2 trips to Japan and have always been impressed with the tranquility of the surroundings, even in the simplest places. Robata Jinya take note!

  • Robata is not very common in the US, and this izakaya/tapas-like grilling of skewers over wood coals is fresh and interesting. Go with a couple of friends so you can try and enjoy a dozen or more selections. I agree that the chicken thighs are the best, I especially like the okra and organ meats (not for the faint of heart, tho). Fun to walk down the street and look at pretty authentic ramen and shabu shabu places, too.

  • My daughter and I ran across this gem and we thought all of the food we ordered was absolutely delicious. This is a very unique place where they cook skewers of meats, vegetables and seafood over an open coal fire. We had filet, chicken, chicken hearts, shrimp, and a variety of vegetables all cooked to perfection. The service was great, the decor was casual and the presentation was impressive. We had a few sushi rolls which were also very good. It was a little expensive for the amount of food received, but we would definitely go back again. We loved it!

  • The chicken breast yakitori was dry and lacked flavor no matter how much extra sauce we added. But when the chicken thigh yakitori arrived, we were in epicurean heaven! The chicken ramen was bland and the noodles were a bit overcooked (I'm part Asian and lived in Japan for 8 years so I know of what I speak). When I asked for white pepper for the ramen, they didn't have any -- the waiter suggested red or black pepper. I'd NEVER heard this at a Japanese restaurant, EVER. But the wait staff was very nice. Prices were reasonable and they even have special happy hour pricing on Saturdays! We also had the Black Cod yakitori (good, but not worth $7 for three tiny pieces), edamame (served hot and with lots of salt -- perfect!), short rib yakitori (skip it -- too much gristle and not tender). Bottom line: Go for the delicious chicken thigh yakitori and edamame!
