  • The area of Porta Ticinese offers a range of restaurants and the Trattoria Toscana Da Vin in via Piopette is in a right-side alley when facing the San Lorenzo complex. I would not have seen it where it not that I wanted to see the back of San Lorenzo to make some photos (worth it) This is a Trattoria with dishes from Tuscany. Having lived in Florence for many years I recognised them all and was tempted. I looked at the lunch menu outside and saw that for 12 Euro they offered a lovely menu, inclusive of wine and coffee. At that moment a number of Italians went in and I followed. Once inside I realised that it was Saturday and the week-day menu was not valid. I ordered a 10 Euro platter with 3 pecorino cheeses, a glass of win and some bread. In the end I paid 15 Euro. I probably would not recommend this during the weekend as one could probably find something a bit more 'filling' for the same price. However, the regular week-day menu really looked worthwhile and the lovely smells coming from the kitchen showed that the chef - from Tuscany - was cooking each dish from fresh ingredients. The restaurant is not big and most tables were taken during Saturday's lunch. The interior is casual, trattoria style with checkered table-clothes, and I could well imagine there to be a lovely atmosphere in the evening. Pleasant service. I will definitively try this one out during a week-day during my next trip to Milan.
