This is forlorn extinct corner in Hilton Residence Colombo. You will not see people or waiters. Most staff dont understand English. A no-go. Mind you I am diamond HHonors member.

14 of us gathered together for a pre-Christmas lunch and, because there were so many of us, we were allocated one of the private alcoves. A nice touch. We were there for the buffet lunch which, for some of us, was going to be a "new" experience. (there's been a total refit in the last 6 months to replace the very tired and worn out '80's style. Everything has been replaced and I do mean everything. Right down to the teaspoons. Today's modern minimalist décor doesn't suit some places but here it's in context. With the kitchen moved to the main dining area and spread out more there's far less of that "football fan" fight to get near the food. Plenty of space. The buffet is, I admit, many of the standard choices you'll find in any 4 or 5 star in Colombo. A great Suchi bar although a little dry. A vast array of curries and accompaniments but only a limited range of salads. Good choice of oysters and shellfish including a first - Lobster! Disappointment was the main course as the choice was only fish or pork. For some reason I ended up with Tikka Masala that was totally indelible due to excess salt and lukewarm at best. However, this was more than made up with the desert table and a double helping of Kulfi with as many additions as wanted. The service was impeccable and friendly with some nice banter rather than the reverential deference one usually gets and which I personally dislike. Price for 2? Rs5,500/- + drinks. Watch out for the drink prices as they are stratospheric. Rs950 for a bottle of beer and a take-away pack of Bensons (I know, I know) and a faint inducing Rs1,193. As this was the last Sunday lunch pre-Christmas a nod to it with some turkey would have been nice.

Went to The Verandha Bistro for a lunch. The very reason I visited this restaurant is that they served Japanese food in the buffet. Sushi was available and I only wanted to eat them. It had tremendous spread of different cousins all over the world! But I wanted only the Sushi! Unfortunately, the chef who was serving the Sushi was not that friendly and therefore I was not confident to ask more. Maybe he doesn’t wanted to refile them. However my friend enjoy the food very much, overall service was good and had a nice time!
