  • The view from the 9/F of One Peking Road in TST in Kowloon is a good complement to the fine dining experience. The cuisine is Cantonese and dim sum lunch is also served starting at 11:30 a.m. Go on a good day. Dinner reservation is recommended for the night view, especially for fireworks during Christmas and New Year.

  • Our concierge had given us a tip about the Royal Palace and while I am not a dim sum fanatic, I was assure that it was a local institution that was worth trying. However, I was warned that it was only open to the public at lunch because at night it became a sought-after wedding venue. So when a group of friends and I rocked up and walked into what looked like the wedding of “Koey & Raymond”, I was thankful I had been clued-in. We were approached by a staff member and shepherded via a complex mime to a table by the window – and wow, what a view. The Royal Palace is located on the ninth floor of the One Peking Road tower, with relatively unobstructed views over to Hong Kong Island. And so to the food. Well, before we get to the food I have to explain the ordering system. When we were seated, we were left with a pile of printed forms and a pen. None of us were bright enough to look at them as we were too busy picking things of the menu. Once we’d decided (a process that took twenty minutes – a table of nine is a nightmare to coordinate), we tried to get the attention of a waiter. At this point, we realised that the staff didn’t know a lot of English – but we were used to pointing at things on menus so we didn’t anticipate a problem. When the first waiter arrived, we started pointing at items on the menu as the lady nodded and smiled. When we finished, the lady smiled, picked up a blue bowl from the table and took it away. There was an exchange of confused looks, and we waited. Was the blue bowl symbolic? Would its removal signal that the table was ready to order? Apparently not. After five minutes of trying to get the attention of another waiter, we decided we had obviously missed something. At that point I noted that tables seemed to get attention after they’d waved paper in the air – and we too had paper! The system quickly became apparent: you write the number of dishes you want against the menu item on the form, then hold the form up in the air, where it is taken b

  • By chance, we chose this restaurant. In fact, we randomly selected the floor in the elevator . After a short examination of menu we went in. Very good service, the staff was very helpful. Nice table by the window with view of the Hong Kong Island harbor line. Excellent duck and pork to start and then the best steamed fish we had in the whole week … with some crab jelly. Sorry, we have forgotten what it was … but very nice combination. The serving arrangement of the fish was spectacular see photos. Nice quiet place with attentive staff. Taking into account the location, view, atmosphere, service and food quality, we were also satisfied with the price.

  • Walking in it was obvious that we were not the clientele that this restaurant was catering to. It was over the top, tacky and ready for a wedding. Despite this, the food was actually pretty good, the prices reasonable and the view spectacular. The restaurant was not full, the food came fast and generally the staff were helpful even though they do not speak English.
