  • Authentic Vietnamese foods are served here. This is the best of all the Vietnamese restaurants (more than 10) I have ever been in Japan. Though a lot of fresh vegetables and herbs are eaten with the main dish in Vietnam, there are not sufficient amount of vegetables in Vietnamese restaurants in Japan. Here at Vietnamchan, however, you can enjoy a lot of different kind of fresh vegetables and herbs. Another good point of this restaurant is the amount of the dishes, which is quite big. Ideal for people with great appetite. The price is reasonable as well. Highly recommended.

  • they were turning people away but we got in as they remembered us. Great food, pricey perhaps compared with Vietnamese elsewhere, but food is healthy and tasty. Highly recommended.

  • Let me start off by saying that I'm not a tourist; I've been in Tokyo for 5 months and I'm a huge foodie. I've been here 2x; once with friends for dinner and another solo for lunch. Everything is pretty reasonably priced (dinner ~1,000 yen/person; lunch 800 yen for a set). For dinner, the banh xeo is a huge portion (great for sharing with friends), but they don't replenish greens for free like they do in the States and one of my friends had an allergy, so they were supposed to omit it from 2 dishes, but they only did it for one and afterwards, when we finished eating and told the waitress, she tried arguing with us that there wasn't shrimp in there (there were quite a few pieces), spoke to the chef, and that was that. She wasn't apologetic enough, but luckily we spotted it and it wasn't a serious allergy. We could have mentioned it earlier, but it wasn't a big deal, and I guess because we didn't immediately bring it to her attention she thought we were lying...? Anyway... both times I've gone, there's no wait to be seated and food is served fairly quickly (for lunch, if you order the beef pho, the most popular item, you're immediately served). I came back for lunch when I had a pho craving and it came as a part of a set meal that was a very good value... 800 yen for beef pho (oily broth, no basil, skimpy on the bean sprouts, but it's Tokyo. Bean sprouts are ridiculously cheap, but it may also be a portion thing), a spring roll (never goes for less than 400 yen regardless of where you look), and a fried sausage. I'm not a Vietnamese-food guru, but I grew up eating pho so I'll say this: the pho is average, but such an amazing value, and other food items, even if not the best/most authentic, is worth it if you're craving Vietnamese in Tokyo. Shin-Okubo boasts a large immigrant community, so there's no place else to look for authentic Vietnamese, Korean, or Nepalanese food.
