Incredible Guangzhou

Greetings to all. This is Kh Shaikh Ahmed. Currently A Bangladeshi foreign student in Shanghai, China. I have been living in China for some years now. Throughout my life in China I have experienced some of my best times in my life. Those moments can not be described in words only. Over the years I tried to document some of the moments through my camera lenses. The things I have experienced and seen changed my perspective of life and made me change the way I think. This time i was lucky enough to be invited by the Guangzhou Local government and led by CTRIP. I have traveled to all over mainland provinces except Tibet province. I have seen the some of the most incredible places on planet earth. China is like a mini world where you can find almost all types of landscapes in one country. Rice field, mountains,glaciers, mighty rivers, oceans, volcanoes, deserts, jungles and most importantly the incredible I have met people on my journey throughout China. This is My China Story. This time is for Guangzhou.

DAY1

Guangzhou and ancient city with rich history and culture. The old name of Guangzhou is Canton where from the local dialect Cantonese originated from. This city is situated in Guangdong Province and its the largest and capital city of Guangdong province. Guangzhou is one of the most important business cities in China. The city has some of the vibrant cultural value and architectures. For my 3 day tour to Guangzhou the very First day was incredibly beautiful and memorable day. On the first day we all gathered at the metro station near to ‘Guangzhou International Travel Fair’. Then from there we walked to the exhibition center. Our organizer and some of the best people I have ever met guided us to the center. They brought entry badge to the exhibition. We all got in. To my surprise the exhibition hall was more than I expected. It was full of travel lovers and most importantly the travel companies, media all were eagerly waiting to help the travel lovers in anyway they can. What mesmerized me that the local Government did the best to arrange the this ‘Guangzhou International Travel Fair’. Indeed it was successful. The participants from different walks of life and travelers from travelers from different countries made the fair a true international fair and a place to celebrate. Afterwards we were invited to drink ‘Chinese Traditional Tea’ in front of a show. Where some models were showing off the Chinese tea culture and its importance relative to the local culture which is incredible to watch. In the meantime time we were offered some expensive tea from Fujian province. There were several types of teas, one type was 16gm cost 4000 yuan another one was 16gm 10000 yuan and most expensive one was 16gm 28000 yuan. I must say I was amused by the tea culture experience. I was glad that we were offered these expensive tea. The teas were amazing to taste. Afterwards I personally visited some stalls offering different travel plans for travel lovers. They came with so many good offers that it was hard to resist for many local and international tourists. Such low price yet fulfilling tour plans. I personally talked to some of the stalls there and they made me feel really welcomed. Afterwards I gave some TV interviews for own country where I was explaining about my experience in the fair and gave some suggestion for my country how we should follow the Guangzhou government’s efforts and arrange such International travel fair. Then we headed a local restaurant called  ’啫八啫啫煲’ where we had our first local meal. I must say I was delighted to have that meal to taste some of the authentic dishes the local restaurant had to offer. Chicken, rice, fish, pigeon meat and so on. After finishing the meal we headed for ‘SHAMIAN ROAD’ or in Chinese ‘沙面’. A road holds a cultural value. This road is also known as diplomatic road. This road has some of the incredible buildings from the past and the local government preserved the buildings really well. These buildings represent the uniqueness of old Chinese and Western architectural values. We were all amazed by the beauty of the streets and couldn’t resist taking photos of the background. We went through some cafes,galleries, old streets which we admire a alot especially for me old structures and history attract me a lot. Afterwards went to another local Chinese restaurant where we had our dinner. This time we had more variation in our foods. I must say i should have been a food vlogger for that moment. Each and every dish was really good. This is another beauty of China with different types local dishes. After finishing our dinner we headed for Canton tower, which is one of my favorite places. Especially the structure of the tower is unbelievable. Our organizer collected our tickets and then we went to the top the tower. We took 2 types of ride there and at 430m height we took some of the rides. Mind blowing experience. Then we took group and personal photos depicting the city behind. The night view was was really mind capturing and showed the city’s advancement from old times to current times. Guangzhou city not only represents the old culture but also shows the modern side as well.

 DAY2

On the second day we had to split into several groups with our tour mates. Early morning I contacted my tour mate. I told my tourmate about the plans we were going to be covering for that day. She basically made a huge plan on that how we were going to cover those amazing places. Our fist destination was The Whampoa Military Academy. We had to take the metro then we crossed the river by ferry. It is situated on a small island. The Whampoa Military Academy is one of the most famous military schools in modern China. It trained many commanders famous in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Civil War between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. The main generals came from the 1st to 6th period of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Evolution of the name of the Huangpu Military Academy At that time, the school was named "Army Officer Academy of Chinese Kuomintang". In 1924, when it was founded by the Kuomintang, it was renamed "Army Officer School of the Chinese Kuomintang"; in 1926, it was renamed "Central Military and Political School"; in 1929, it was renamed "Huangpu Officer School of the National Revolutionary Army"; in 1931, it was renamed "Central Army Officer School"; and by the end of 1946, it was renamed "Army Officer School of the Republic of China". June 16, 1924, the Kuomintang Army Officer Academy was formally established in Changzhou Island, Huangpu, Guangzhou, commonly known as the Huangpu Military Academy. In January 1946, the Whampoa Military Academy was renamed the Army Officer Academy of the Republic of China and the school was nationalized. In December 1949, most of the students of Whampoa 23 moved to Taiwan with the "Guofu". In October 1950, the Taiwan authorities, in the name of the so-called "Army Officer Academy of the Republic of China", "re-established" the Academy in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung, and renewed it for 24 periods, calling itself the Whampoa Continuation. On May 16, 1979, Lin Yifu graduated from the 44th period of the Army Academy, and returned to mainland Xiamen from Kinmen about 2 kilometers.

The second destination was Huangpu Village. It has witnessed the prosperity of Guangzhou's "Maritime Silk Road". Since the Song Dynasty, Huangpu Ancient Port has long played an important role in overseas trade. In the Southern Song Dynasty, this place was a gathering place for sea ships. Huangpu Ancient Port area is divided into four functional areas, namely, memorial exhibition area, ancient Port Park area, pier road catering area and village square area. The memorial exhibition area consists of Huangpu Tax Hall, Yongjing Camp (barracks), comprador Hall, Yifu House and Exhibition Street. Huangpu Tax Hall is the focus of the whole building complex. The barracks is equipped with barracks, watchtowers, weapons racks and so on. I saw many locals selling their fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, fish, and so on. I saw another antique ship which caught my attention as I love ancient things to witness before my eyes.

Our third Destination was Sun Yat-Sen University In 1924, Sun Yat-sen established National Guangdong University by integrating many universities in Guangzhou. 1926 It was named National Sun Yat-sen University. Today, the university was formed by the merger of Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in October 2001. The university has some historical values. The campus was huge in size. Inside the campus it was all green and well managed. A lot of my successful friends I know graduated from this university and serving locally and internationally.

After visiting the university campus we went for Night tour of Pearl River. The river comes to life at night time. The colored lit ships, night time cruise ship and lighting from surrounding buildings made the river like a dreamland. A lot of people walk around the riverbank, some people dancing, some young people were skateboarding , some were selling fruits and lot of other things making the riverside live and fun. This river has long history as river run through the city.

The Pearl River is the earliest place for foreign trade. Because of the geographical position, the Pearl River became the earliest place for foreign trade in China. According to Geographical Records of the Book of Han, in the early Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wudi of Han sent messengers to Guangzhou along the route opened up by Baiyue people. Without the invention of compass or the use of sails, they took a boat with paddles and opened up an ancient sea road with pioneering will and adventurous spirit. The route goes through Southeast Asia, across the Bay of Bengal, to the southeastern part of the Indian Peninsula, and to Sri Lanka. This was the beginning of the Maritime Silk Road. During the Tang and Song dynasties, Guangzhou had become the largest port in China and the world famous Oriental Port City.

 DAY3

On my Day 3 we had our plans detailed. First place to be visited was Chen Ancestral Hall then Zhenhai Tower, Tai Ping Sha CAI JI restaurant , and finally South Yue King Museum.

 Our very first tour was in The Chen Ancestral Hall, also known as "Chen Academy" and commonly known as the Chen Ancestral Hall, is located in Zhongshan Seventh Road, Guangzhou City. The Chen Academy was built from the 14th year 1888 to the 20th year 1894 of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. It was a "clan temple" jointly funded by the Chen clan from all over Guangdong Province. It provided temporary residence for the children of the Chen clan to go to the provincial capital to prepare for the imperial examinations, to be appointed, to pay taxes, and to file lawsuits. Chen ancestral temple is one of the largest ancestral traditional buildings of Guangzhou existing, as well as the largest, best preserved and most beautifully decorated ancestral architecture of our country, which is known as the "pearl of Lingnan architectural art". The beauty of this captured my mind. I wanted to stay more but due to time limitation I had to move along for my next destination.

My next destination was Zhenhai Tower. It was such an incredible place to visit as I always love historical places so this place just added another experience to my knowledge. The Zhenhai Tower exhibition area is located in the beautiful Yuexiu Park. It is located in the famous Zhenhai Tower of Guangzhou and its surrounding buildings. Zhenhai Building was once known as Wanghai Building, commonly known as "five-storey building" because of its five-storey height. It was built in the 13th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty 1380, when General Zhu Liangzu, in order to expand the urban area, combined with the three cities in the Song Dynasty, built the wall across the north of the city over the Xiushan Mountain, and built this tower on the highest point. Boarding overlooking, Yangcheng scenery panoramic view. Poets have been singing for centuries. Since the Qing Dynasty has been one of the "eight sights of the Yangcheng City". I took some of the photos of inside to remember this place. The tomb of nanyue king is in the early western han dynasty nanyue king of the second generation Mo zhao mausoleum.

Afterwards we were hungry so we decided to tryout a local Cantonese style food. Then we headed for Tai Ping Sha CAI JI restaurant located next Beijing road. This restaurant has its own story to tell. We tried local style beef, vegetable rice with rice porridge. The taste was really satisfying. The restaurant is old style looking restaurant. It can be said that anyone can recognize the uniqueness of of their local dishes and noodles. I was totally satisfied with food I had. In the meantime I was able to see other locals how they enjoyed their food. Especially a Grandma who was local and enjoying the local food by herself. And she praised me for trying out her town’s food. I just love to hear from the locals and their stories to be told.

And the very last place was South Yue King Museum. Southern Yue Kings Mausoleum Museum (南越王墓博物馆) in Guangzhou, China.

The Southern Yue Kings Mausoleum Museum is located in the Yuexiu District of Guangzhou and is dedicated to the history and culture of the Southern Yue Kingdom, which existed from 203 BCE to 111 BCE. The museum houses a collection of artifacts and relics from the ancient kingdom, including pottery, bronze ware, jade carvings, and other cultural relics.Visitors to the museum can explore the underground tombs of the Southern Yue Kings, which were discovered in the 1980s and have been preserved as an important historical site. The tomb chambers are decorated with intricate carvings and paintings, and contain a variety of burial objects and artifacts.

In addition to the tomb chambers, the museum also features exhibitions on the history and culture of the Southern Yue Kingdom, as well as interactive displays and multimedia presentations. The Southern Yue Kings Mausoleum Museum is a popular tourist attraction in Guangzhou and is open to visitors.
