After a morning walking in the area, my wife and I and two friends stopped here for lunch. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, who told us about the history of the business and how she tries to ensure that the food served uses mainly produce from her own gardens (she is an elderly lady who speaks no English but my wife and I speak Spanish fluently). There was only a set lunch consisting of three dishes - a thick vegetable soup, a salad (one of the best I have recently had not only with the usual lettuce and tomato etc. but also with various fruits) and gofio ( a "flour" made from roasted maize or wheat, which has been an important ingredient in Canarian cooking for many many years) with a red pepper sauce. Whilst this might not be for everyone, it is an opportunity to experience traditional La Gomera cuisine (and, if you choose, the local wine) on a delightful terrace with views to the surrounding countryside. I have given this restaurant four "stars" not for the quality of its food but for the opportunity it gave us to experience something of the true history of La Gomera. For this reason we would recommend it to friends as being something to experience as part of a stay on the island.

I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant. We'd been trekking all day on the GR131 from San Sebastian and the promise of some of the best food on La Gomera kept me going. It all started promisingly when we arrived, first impressions were it seemed nice and friendly...then it all started to go downhill! There is no menu to choose from, which isn't a problem, but it was quite 'difficult' to discover this (and one of our party does speak fluent Spanish). That day's menu consisted of vegetable soup, salad and golfio, which seems remarkably similar to the menu described by other reviewers. I think I can honestly say that the vegetable soup was the most unremarkable I've ever tasted, it was bland, watery, dull and well just awful. I'm not quite sure what to say about the salad it was so forgettable, unimaginative and inconsequential and as for the golfio - well! They may well use local or home grown vegetables but they certainly don't do anything interesting with them. I do get the feeling that the whole place has seen better days and is resting on a reputation which is going to run out very quickly if they don't get their act together. We had lots of really good food in La Gomera but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There is nothing special at all about its food; the staff varied from being aggressive if you dared question anything to uninterested to downright rude. One of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had!

We visited this restaurant after a lovely walk up to Las Creces, through the meadows and mossy woodlands. The first things that struck us at the restaurant were the fruit and vegetable garden and the orchid room - stunning! The owner is so friendly and treated us like family, even though we couldn't speak much of her language; all part of the fun. Traditional veggie stew, cake, coffee and fresh fruit smoothies were had by our group - delicious, fresh and healthy. We purchased some honey and she gave us a little selection of nuts to take away as we left.

Interesting to read the reviews of this restaurant – it is clearly like by some but we found it very disappointing. I like a simple, organic menu using local ingredients but this was just awful. There was a menu (although it was not explained) which consisted of soup and salad, served together, for €10 per person. The bread was cheap, white, and shop-bought not home made, accompanied by average almogrote. Next, a watery but lumpy soup that tasted of nothing in particular. The salad was very small (and very boring) largely consisting of iceberg lettuce, grated carrot and some sliced banana. It was more of a side salad than a meal to feed two adults. Afterwards we were pointed towards some cake when we asked about dessert (it wasn't offered), which it turned out was not included in the menu. This was not value for money compared with the lovely food we had tasted elsewhere on the island, and it left us hungry with no other food options. Finally, it was served by rude staff who, unfortunately, have a captive audience in Las Hayas – particularly if, like us, you are on a walking holiday and do not have a car. Avoid this 'restaurant'.
