Being a water lover and a Coolangatta resident, the wooden 'South Swell' sign caught my eye from our hotel the night we arrived, I was intrigued. It was until two days later we managed to go in. Despite the language barriers, it just felt like home. The music, the decor, the magazines and the coffee were like a Coolangatta oasis in the middle of busy Osaka. Retro surf movies were playing on a projector screen at the rear of the cafe with the walls adorned with Monster Children and Surfing Journal magazines. The menu is short and sweet, presented on a chalk board at the front of the restaurant. It is a mix of health foods and americana comfort foods. I ordered the hotdog set (healthy breakfast) whilst my girlfriend ordered the Acai bowl. She tells me the Acai was very good, it looked great. My hotdog set was fantastic and came with scrambled eggs, a great salad and some fresh fruits. The hotdog itself was immaculate and coated in all different kinds of pickles. It was delicious. The service, as usual for Japan was great. Friendly and attentive, the two girls wanted to know where we were from and how long we were here for. I told them I was from the Gold Coast and that this felt like home and they seemed flattered. I truly love this cafe and am going back this morning.
